A How To Guide To Volunteering In The Peace Core

The first step to becoming a Peace Corps volunteer is to submit an application. You will be asked for basic personal information, two essays, three references, a resume that includes employment history, educational background and volunteer history, college transcripts, evidence of a good credit history, and a health status report.

After your application information is reviewed you will be invited to an interview if the Peace Corp thinks that you are a good fit for their organization. During the interview you will talk with a recruiter, who is usually someone that has been a volunteer themself, to determine if the Peace Corp is the place for you, and how you would fit in if accepted.

If the recruiter decides that you would be a good fit for the Peace Corp you will be officially nominated for service. This is a recommendation to move a person on to the next step of the application process.

The fourth step in becoming a Peace Corp volunteer evaluates your health, eligibility according to Peace Corp guidelines, and how your skills would be an asset to the organization and the communities it serves.

If you make it through all of these steps you will be issued a formal invitation for service. You will receive information about the country you are being assigned to, as well as information about what you will be doing there. You will be sent an airline ticket, but before departure you will go through training to prepare you for your new life as a Peace Corp volunteer.
