Before You Leave…
Posted by www.meaningfultravel.org in Uncategorized on 01 12th, 2012If you’re planning a long-term volunteer trip such as with the Peace Corps or a mission organization you’ll need to do some things at home first. Be sure to cross everything off the list before you leave so you won’t have to worry about anything on your trip but making a difference.
Secure Your Home: If you own a home you may want to try to rent it out but if that’s not an option you’ll want to secure it as well as possible. Think about Home security and consider shutting off all your utilities but make sure someone checks in monthly on the electricity and plumbing.
Deal With Family: Talk to your family about the expectations for communication while you’ll be gone and set up a plan for everyone to visit, if at all possible. This will help the transition go more smoothly and you’ll feel most supported.
Financial Stability: Depending on whether or not your trip will be funded you’ll need to figure out how you’re going to make money when you get back. Either set up savings or a job for when you get back.
